When September and October are nearing and you’re planning an event: google “Rosh Hashanah *year*” and *Yom Kippur *year*” and then, and I cannot stress this enough, don’t plan your event on those days. In fact, don’t plan any events starting sundown the night before. Those are the three most important days of the Jewish calendar, and, once again, I cannot stress enough how much this little bit of forethought and kindness will make every Jew you know cry tears of joy.
Here is a fun fact: If you compare people born in 1900 to people born in 1960, the percentage of left-handers is FOUR TIMES as great among thos born in 1960. Did left-handedness become a fad? Did someone start persuading people to become left-handed? No, but what did happen is they stopped punishing people for being left-handed. I was born left-handed in 1951. (yeah, I know, people that old really do exist. And have sex) I knew people a generation ahead of me who told me stories of being beaten in school for writing with their left hand. Can we maybe see a parallel to more kids coming out as gay or trans when it became just a little bit safer to do so?
I’m a “bit older” than you @katsdom & I am also “proudly” LEFT-HANDED. My mother was born left-handed in 1915. She hand teachers who tied her left hand behind her or used a switch to stop her from using her left hand. I agree with your comparison with the blaming, shaming & violence that is being perpetrated on LGBTQ+ children & adults - WHAT WE HUMANS “DON’T UNDERSTAND” WE TURN TO BANNING, VIOLENCE & HATRED FOR “THE OTHERS.”
